These are movies in which the main characters start drinking when they get outof bed in the morning and don't stop till the case is solved several dayslater. (In one scene, William Powell instructs his bartender on the 'finer' artof shaking. "The important thing is the rhythm. Always have rhythm in yourshaking. Now a Manhattan you always shake to fox-trot time, a Bronx to two-steptime, a Dry Martini you always shake to waltz time").
